Simulation Runs

The Simulation control panel has been simplified by the removal of the Powersim option. All simulations will be run at optimal speed so that results will be generated in less than a second on most PCs. The Auto simulation duration will ensure that the simulation is run for sufficient years to include all costs for the program.

Removal of Powersim Mode

Powersim mode allowed OSCAM to be run using the native simulation software that is used to develop the OSCAM model. The Warp Speed mode was introduced in previous versions of OSCAM to run the simulation in a compiled mode that does not use the native simulation software and runs about 100 times faster.

The removal of Powersim mode makes the Simulation control panel simpler. All simulations will be run at optimal speed so that results will be generated in less than a second on most PCs.

Automated Simulation Duration

The required length of a simulation run is automatically calculated based on the year of the last ship introduction and the ship lifetime (plus 1 year). In OSCAM Ship v8.3 onwards costs can be specified after the retirement of the last ship using annual cost profile tables. These tables are available in the Training, Indirect, Other and Throughput sectors. The year column headers in these tables are shown with a black background in years before the first ship enters service and after the last ship retires. In calculating the Auto simulation duration, each if these tables will be scanned to check if any costs are incurred after the last ship retires and the simulation duration will be extended to ensure that these costs are included in the results.
